Marvin Richard Ping, age 80, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Marvin was born on January 11, 1938 in Acorn, KY to the late Edward Franklin Ping and Marie Frances Hughes Ping. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy.  Marvin was a longtime employee of General Motors in Indianapolis, where he retired in 1991, and he moved back to Pulaski County several years later. He loved raising vegetables and always put out a big garden.  In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Marvin is survived by his daughter, Sherri Dean (and Jim) Arnold of Somerset; two sisters, Willena (and Herman) Hamilton of Somerset and Elmeta (and Jimmy) Alexander of Somerset; one sister-in-law, Betty Ping of Somerset; three grandchildren, Ashley Arnold, Carli Arnold and Taylor Arnold; one great grandson, Cooper Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Kay Gruwell Ping, who preceded him on December 31, 2016; one son, Richard Mark Ping; one brother, Wayne Ping; and an infant brother, Howard C. Ping.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 10:00am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Brian Sawyers officiating.  Burial will be at Clay Hill Cemetery.
