Margaret “Maggie Belle” Silvers Starkey, age 98, slipped away from this world on Sunday, August 26, 2018 with family by her side.

She was born on September 5, 1919 in Somerset, Kentucky to the late George Lester Silvers and Maggie Frost Silvers.

A lifetime resident of Somerset, “Maggie Belle” watched almost a century of change from her beloved corner of the world. In her early years she was a member of the High Street Baptist Church and in later years she attended the Ferguson Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, raising two daughters and then later worked as a sales clerk at Watson’s Department Store in downtown Somerset. She was a great lover of animals and was known in her neighborhood to rescue and care for many stray animals who had the good fortune to rest at her doorstep.

She is survived by her two daughters, Margaret LaVerne (Emmett) Burnside of Somerset and Barbara Ann (Gene) Tassie of Union City, Michigan; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; John Parker Starkey; four brothers, Alphonzo Silvers, Sr., Raymond Silvers, Arlow Silvers, Harry Kendall Silvers; four sisters, Della Mae Denham, Mary Marble Henderson, Elnora McElroy, and Bernice Clark and a half-sister, Hettie Ann Silvers.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 12:00 noon at Ferguson Baptist Church with Bro. Darrell Vance officiating.  Burial will be at Somerset Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their thanks and sincere appreciation to the nursing and support staff at Cumberland Nursing Home for the tender and attentive care which they provided for our beloved “Maggie Belle”.
