Kenneth Chaney, aged 65, of West Helena, Arkansas, departed this life on Wednesday at Helena Regional Medical Center. Ken was born on October 25, 1951 to Paul and Lillian Chaney at Fort McPherson, Georgia. He grew up in Springfield, Ohio and received his high school education at Springfield South. He received his bachelor’s degree from Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio and his master’s degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. While attending seminary in Louisville, Ken met his future wife, Mandy Fansler. After a brief courtship, they were married on December 31, 1990 in Louisville, Kentucky. The two were blessed with three sons, Jake, Sam, and Elijah.
After receiving his degree, Ken went on to serve as the Minister of Youth and Education at First Baptist Church in Miamisburg, Ohio and North Dayton Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio. For the last 15 years, he served as the pastor of Barton Baptist Church in Barton, Arkansas. He also worked for the Barton-Lexa School District. His great desire was to see the community won to Christ. He longed for people to fall in love with his Jesus.
Ken was an avid fan of college sports, and his two favorite teams were Ohio State football and Indiana University basketball. He was a loving husband, father, and brother. He acted as a mentor to those that needed his support and guidance, and he touched the lives of so many during his life.
Ken departed from his earthly home on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 where he was greeted with open arms in his Heavenly home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lillian Chaney, and his two brothers, Donnie and Lee Chaney.
Family left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mandy, sons, Jake Chaney, his wife Katie, and Elijah Chaney of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Sam Chaney of West Helena, Arkansas, sisters, Earline and Linda Chaney of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Martha Harvey and her husband, Jay, of Somerset, Kentucky.
Visitation will be held at Barton Baptist Church on Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm in Barton, Arkansas. A second visitation will be held on Monday July 10, 2017 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Clifty Grove Baptist Church in Somerset, Kentucky. His funeral service will follow at 11:00am with Bro. Sam Chaney officiating. Burial will be at Chaney Cemetery.
