Joann “Granny” Matlock, age 84, of Eubank, KY, passed away on Saturday, September 08, 2018 at her residence.
Joann was born on January 9, 1934 in Somerset, KY to the late Thomas Slavey and Margaret Keeney Slavey. She was retired from Britthaven of Somerset and was also well known at the Family Market where folks loved her cooking. Joann loved tending to the flowers in her yard and she especially loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Suzanne (and Denny) Guthrie of Loveland, OH, Michael (and Lisa) Slavey of Eubank, Jaqueline (and David) Williams of Mason, OH, Terry (and Lesley) Matlock of Somerset, David (and Mary) Matlock of Houston, TX and Pamela “Jane” Matlock (and Denise) of Blessing, TX; thirteen grandchildren, Amy Sanchez, Christina Matlock, Stacey Matlock, Patrick Villion, Bill Harris, Sheila Harris, Chris Harris, Rosetta Clark, Larry Slavey, Amber Smith, Takesha Matlock, Luis C. and Mae C.; sixteen great-grandchildren; special friend, Earl Randolph; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, David Belvin Matlock, whom she married on December 23, 1972, and he preceded her on January 23, 2005; one daughter, Patsy Villion; one grandson, David Harris; two brothers, William Slavey and Teddy Lee Slavey; and three sisters, Ella Mounce, Christine Vanhook and Margaret Gassert.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 10:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
Her funeral service will follow on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Stanley Sears and Bro. Elmo Mounce officiating. Burial will be at Mill Springs National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
