January 22, 1925 – February 23, 2017

Cecil Burton, age 92, of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center of Somerset on February 23, 2017.

Cecil was born on January 22, 1925 in Pulaski Co. to the late Stephen and Della Calhoun Burton. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church since 1950, where he met and later married his wife of 66 years, Wanda Jane Epperson Burton. After proudly serving in the United States Army, Cecil was later employed at Cumberland Wood & Chair for 33 years. His job developed into a hobby of creating handmade furniture pieces for his family. Many memories have been created over a meal spread upon a handmade Burton table. Cecil had a great love for the games of Croquet and Rook, but his favorite pastime was mowing his grass on his riding lawnmower, wearing his bucket hat. Cecil, a proud but quiet man, was vocal about one thing: love…his love for God, his church, his family and his many friends. He was a master of all the simple things in life.

Cecil was married to Wanda Epperson Burton on October 21, 1950. He is survived by his wife and his children, Judy (Bruce) Turner and Sherry (Robin) Daughetee. Cecil is also survived by his grandchildren: Reece (Jaci) Turner, Rachel (Matt) Litteral, Dana (Steve) Fohl and Kara (Jarred) Holbrook. His great-grandchildren are Clayton Litteral, Grayson Turner, Carter Litteral, Clark Litteral, Charlie Turner, Riley Turner, Jackson Turner and Elyse Fohl. He also leaves behind many special family members and friends.

Cecil is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Ike Taylor, Roscoe Burton and Ottis “Dutch” Burton.

The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Oak Hill Baptist Church. Pastor Gary Phelps and Pastor Emeritus Harold Brown will be officiating. Visitation will be held 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Oak Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow the funeral at Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

The family requests expressions of sympathy to be made to Oak Hill Baptist Church Building Fund or Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center of Somerset. The family wishes to thank the Hospice Unit for their special care, the doctors and nursing staff of Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, the pastors of Oak Hill Baptist Church and their many friends and family for their love and support.
